The Prize celebrates successful initiatives undertaken by local governments and stimulates others to follow suit. Moreover, it aims at generating international public attention for the role local governments play in ensuring sustainable and peaceful development. The third edition of the UCLG Peace Prize has been launched. The finalists of the 2022 UCLG Peace Prize are Mersin, Mishiha, Monterrey, Palmira and Recife. In 2019, the Municipality of Arsal (Lebanon) won the second edition of the UCLG Peace Prize. The UCLG Peace Prize is awarded to projects from local governments that stimulate a culture of peace.
