Peace Prize

The Prize celebrates successful initiatives undertaken by local governments and stimulates others to follow suit. Moreover, it aims at generating international public attention for the role local governments play in ensuring sustainable and peaceful development. The forth edition of the UCLG Peace Prize has been launched at the World Forum of Cities and Territories of Peace in Montevideo, Urugay on the 2nd of May 2025. The Technical Evaluation Committee is currently in the process of reviewing all peace initiatives. Thereafter, during the World Congress in Tangier, Morocco from 22 to 26 June, the Jury will announce the winner of the UCLG Peace Prize 2026. To learn more about the peace initiatives go to news.

Winner 2026

Lamu County, Kenya, has won the UCLG Peace Prize 2026. The international jury awarded the prize for the Lamu Peace Model, which brings together disaster risk management, social cohesion, climate adaptation, the prevention of violent extremism, maritime safety and refugee inclusion. The UCLG Peace Prize is awarded to projects from local governments that stimulate a culture of peace.
