Peace Prize

The Prize celebrates successful initiatives undertaken by local governments and stimulates others to follow suit. Moreover, it aims at generating international public attention for the role local governments play in ensuring sustainable and peaceful development. The third edition of the UCLG Peace Prize took place at the UCLG World Congress in Daejeon, Korea, from 10-14 October 2022. The finalists of the 2022 UCLG Peace Prize were Mersin, Mishiha, Monterrey, Palmira and Recife. To learn more about the peace initiatives go to news.

Previous winner

In 2022, the Municipality of Palmira (Colombia) won the third edition of the UCLG Peace Prize. Palmira implemented a comprehensive approach to violence prevention focused on working with youth by prioritising resources through the PAZOS project. The UCLG Peace Prize is awarded to projects from local governments that stimulate a culture of peace.
