Celebrating peace and dialogue worldwide
The fourth edition of the UCLG Peace Prize was launched at the World Forum of Cities and Territories of Peace in Montevideo, Uruguay on 2 May 2025. Over the past months, the Secretariat of the UCLG Peace Prize has received inspiring applications from local governments across the globe. The process has now moved into its second stage.
This next phase brings important developments. Eligible applicants have been invited to provide additional details about their initiatives by 1 February. This will give the Technical Evaluation Committee the insight they need to score the applications and select the most outstanding finalists.
The announcement of the finalists on 1 April will mark a major milestone in the UCLG Peace Prize timeline. From that point, the UCLG Peace Prize Secretariat will work closely with each finalist to arrange travel and visa formalities for one representative to attend the UCLG World Congress. At the same time, finalists will receive guidance and support to create a compelling video that tells the story of their project and its impact.
All efforts lead to 22 to 26 June 2026, when the UCLG World Congress takes place in Tangier, Morocco. This global gathering brings together local and regional leaders to exchange ideas and shape the future of governance. The finalists will take the stage to present their initiatives to an international audience. Following these presentations, in a ceremony during the general assembly the winner of the 2026 edition will be announced. This is a moment that honors the vital role of local governments in promoting peace, dialogue, and solidarity.
At the UCLG Peace Prize Secretariat, we look forward to honoring these extraordinary efforts and shining a bright light on local action for peace at the UCLG World Congress in Tangier!
