As we are preparing for the UCLG World Congress together with our finalists, the secretariat of the UCLG Peace Prize is proud and grateful to welcome the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) as official partner of the award.
SALGA will provide substantial funding to the UCLG Peace Prize over the next three years as we organise this year’s edition and prepare for the next. The expansion of our partnerships with SALGA enables us to continue and expand our work. Furthermore, this development marks the first official partner of the UCLG Peace Prize on the African continent.
Welcoming the partnership, Lance Joel, SALGA Acting CEO says, “Societies have multiple problems and local governments, because of their proximity to people and communities, are well-positioned to address them. It is for this reason that SALGA is proud to join hand-in-hand with the international local government community in building and sustaining peace within our cities, towns and villages’’.
