Hosted live from The Hague, city of peace and justice, the event will feature inspiring speakers discussing the potential of local governments in promoting peace. The event will mark the opening of the call for applications, and provide all information local governments need to apply for this award.

Launch of the UCLG Peace Prize 2022

Local governments who have innovative and effective initiatives to promote peace in their communities are eligible to apply. The finalists will be sponsored to present their peace initiatives at the UCLG World Congress in the Korean city of Daejeon in October 2022. This congress will also feature the award ceremony, where the winning local government will receive a prize package of €20.000 to strengthen its initiative or facilitate exchange with other local governments.
If you want to join this online event, keep an eye on this page as we provide more updates and the link to the live stream. After the launch, eligible local governments can start the application procedure. The deadline for applications will be the 1st of March 2022.
The UCLG Peace Prize generates international public attention for the role that local governments play in ensuring sustainable and peaceful development and is awarded once every three years during the UCLG World Congress. The prize is an initiative of the Associations of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) and is organized with support from several partners such as the Municipality of The Hague, and the Dutch National Foundation for Peace, Freedom and Veteran Care (vfonds).
